WOB-Venti Anni Red 1992: the new “apple distillate vintage series” from Wolfram Ortner
The success story of the Wolfram Ortner distillery in the Nockland area of Carinthia dates back to 1989. It all started out with raspberry followed by experiments with wood, apples and a blend of different fruits. The clear goal was to compose “melodious harmonies of flavour”.
Shortly before the company celebrated its 25 year anniversary, this trendsetter launched a special range of barrique-matured apple distillates. “WOB-Venti Anni” is a limited edition vintage series. The distillates are stored in Limousin oak barriques for at least 20 years, which is indicative of both the maturity of the product and the experience of the distiller.
The cuvée of old Lavanttal apple varieties combines mature fruits with fullness and potential. Delicate hints of coffee and caramel reflect the harmonious integration of woody tone which gives the brandy is powerful note.
The different vintages are indicated by coloured labels – starting with “red”.
The particularly dense aroma of the “Venti Anni Red” is influenced by the selection of apple varieties used – from September to the end of October. The result is an aromatic trio of sweet, sour and tart apples paired with the vanilla sweetness of the barriques – forming the basis of the vintage aroma concept.
Ortner achieves his concentrated flavours by using a long and controlled distillate storage process with an alcohol strength of approx. 48% which strengthens the backbone of the “WOB VA”. This makes it the perfect accompaniment to enjoy in good company or with a cigar.
